Wildnismentor Winter Friluftsliv 2025
Five current course participants (Celina, Max, Béla, Michaela, Leila) and Mahdi, a last year´s course graduate took part in this year´s Winter Friluftsliv in Sweden funded by Erasmus+ programme. We were hosted by six Swedish QVF students of Sjöviks Folkhögksola who we had already met in autumn. This time both parties were involved in food planning. Even if some Germans had never been on skis before they were having a fantastic time and learnt quickly. We improved our skiing skills in a ski school on the first day as well as on a day trip the day after.
Life at the cabins at the mountain alp Nysätersvallen was like a hundred years ago and demanded some cores we otherwise would not have to carry out: Heating the stoves for cooking, splitting wood and fetching water from a frozen creek are only some examples. Days were passing so quickly leading a simple life in the north and the long evenings were a good opportunity for singing and learning handcrafts like needlework. The highlight was a night out in two groups. In minus 7 degrees we were sleeping under the starlight snuggled in our cozy sleeping bags. For that we had to learn how to set up camp in winter, how to make firewood and cook over the open fire. Beware, olive oil can freeze in those conditions! How we dealt with that problem you can also find out in the film.
